Sainik School Goalpara To Enroll Girl Students for the First Time

For the first time ever in its history, Sainik School Goalpara is going to enroll girls in Class 6 from the academic session 2021-22.

“With this, talented girls from the State will get a golden opportunity to prepare themselves from an early age to serve the nation by joining Indian Defence Services. Accordingly, the school will arrange for the necessary infrastructure, education and adequate training to impart wholesome growth in the girls of the region,” defence spokesman Lt Col P Khongsai told The Assam Tribune.

The details are available on the website: https://aissee.nta.nic.in and the last date for submission of application is November 19.

After a pilot project, the Ministry of Defence has approved the admission of girls in all the 31 Sainik Schools in the country. The pilot project was done in the Sainik School at Chhingchhip in Mizoram which the government said was a success.
Initially, the girl candidates were not allowed to seek admission in the Sainik Schools which had been in operation since 1961. The schools are intended to allow boys to prepare themselves for being a part of the National Defence Academy (NDA).

Sainik Schools were first established in the year 1961, by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the Officer cadre of the Indian Military, and to prepare students mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA).
