GATE Notification 2027
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has released the official notification for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 subjects (also referred to as “papers”) and it would be distributed over February 06th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st 2027. The examination would be purely a Computer Based Test (CBT). GATE 2027 will be held at several centres spread across 300+ cities in India.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to: (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies. Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MoE scholarship/assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory.

Further, several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have used GATE score to shortlist the candidates for employment. A few such organizations are: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL).
Direct recruitment to Group A level posts in Central government, i.e., Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto) and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, is now being carried out on the basis of GATE score.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE Examination
Educational Qualification: Candidates who are currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who have completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities are eligible to appear for GATE 2027. Age Limit: There is NO age limit to appear for GATE 2027 examination

The GATE 2027 application portal directs candidates to the payment gateway, which provides options for fee payment — Internet banking/debit card/credit card/wallet/UPI. The fee amount and bank charges will be shown to the candidate, and they will have to confirm and pay.

A candidate can opt for SIX cities . All the six options must be from the same GATE 2027 zone. GATE 2027 reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one, and allot a city that may not be from any of the options provided by the candidate.
